what's 'vtube' ?

A virtual youtuber (バーチャルユーチューバー, bācharu yūchūbā, female: virtual youtuber) or VTuber (ブイチューバー, buichūbā, for "virtual YouTuber") is an entertainment broadcaster that uses a virtual avatar generated using software or 3D modeling and motion capture technology.

The phenomenon was born in Japan in the mid-2010s. The majority of VTubers are web videographers or streamers who use anime-inspired avatar designs. In 2020, there are more than 10,000 active VTuber.

Despite their name, virtual youtubers are not exclusive to YouTube but are also present on platforms like Niconico, Twitch and bilibili.
